Blue Heron’s Saratoga

In July 2010 I had been gifted TJ’s “pick” daughter from a beautiful litter whose dam is from excellent Canadian and US racing lines. Her name was Blue Heron’s Saratoga, JC, Holly.  She  She was sweet, gifted, smart, beautiful and greeted each day with joyful  “woowoos” not unlike TJ’s.  In fact she had a whole vocabulary of “words” for several different occasions.

Since she had just turned four, I had immediately begun to train her racing. She had already lure coursed and we were looking forward to those titles too. She loved running, and was very fast and keen. She ran in the CWA National Championship in British Columbia on August 21 and was 12th out of 60, a really good result for a brand new racer.

Sat. 2 Oct. we were entered in a CWA race meet in Abbotsford, BC.  Holly was on the losing end of a frightful collision at the finish of her second race and broke her neck.  She never regained consciousness so, mercifully, did not suffer.  The RFF race organizers, most especially Steve B. were absolutely wonderful in the face of such a tragedy, and I cannot say enough about how magnificently the Canadians handled this situation and rose unquestioningly to meet my needs.  One of my BC Whippet friends, Ellen, and her friend Nancy drove all the way back from Abbotsford to Fall City WA with me so I could manage to do the drive home.

Besides Holly’s obvious measurable gifts she was such an incredibly special soul with a large helping of “joie de vivre”. I really needed her with me longer as her joyful spirit had given me renewed hope for the future.

Her new best friend Gina has been so mournful and the entire fur family here knows that something is terribly wrong.

My heart is in shreds. I keep telling myself that the saying “the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away” is what I should be holding on with.  I’m trying but I’m not there yet.
